WE'RE GONNA BE ALRIGHT
Cão Solteiro & André Godinho

 PREMIERE | September, Culturgest, Lisbon

"I have told myself a thousand times not to be shocked again by
what people will do to have fun, for reasons they cannot explain."
Will Self, My Idea Of Fun

Following We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes, Play, The Film and Day for Night, the theatre company Cão Solteiro and filmmaker André Godinho proceed with the research on the relationships between theatre and film, this time approaching commercial cinema.

Working with everything an audience expects from a blockbuster, the show is built with the most spectacular elements: special effects.

Those effects do not serve, in this case, a narrative – they take its place, postponing it indefinitely – and because they’re out of context, they are no longer special.

As in old cinema, functioning as a fair attraction, what will be seen is spectacle for spectable, effect without cause, an assemblage of attractions.

We’re Gonna Be Alright is a blockbusted with sex, blood and violence.

ISTO É UMA TRAGÉDIA | THIS IS A TRAGEDY
Cão Solteiro & Vasco Araújo

PREMIERE | November | Maria Matos Teatro Municipal, Lisbon

According to some people, human existence and human relations can be described as a failure, in which we fail to acknowledge each other, in which we seem to be insufficient and lonely. In the face of all of this, these people claim, silence seems to be the best way to describe existence.

This is a Tragedy chooses another viewpoint. In this performance, we consider that, given the impossibility of understanding others perfectly, we should give up and talk, that we should talk incessantly, without stopping. Nothing remains.

In this performance, everything there is to see is there to be seen, nothing is hidden or will be revealed at the ending, there are no mysteries or sudden disclosures.

The aim of this show is that of life, to talk our way into disappearing into oblivion.
